Time schedule is decided each year, and historically, meetings are held in May.
BAR members must: • have knowledge of property values in the municipality • be at least 18 years old • be a citizen of the United States • be a resident of the municipality in which the board serves; and • attend required training
The BAR constitutes what is known as a quasi-judicial body and the members of the board are charged with judicial responsibility to get all the facts, and apply appropriate laws and reasoning to the facts in a fair and judicious manner. Members are appointed to a five year term.
As an initial appointee or re-appointee to the board of assessment review (BAR), members must attend a training session, taught by a county director of real property tax services.
